After breakfast, begin your sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, by exploring Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal’s most important Hindu temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva. Non-Hindu visitors cannot enter the main temple, but you can observe the temple from designated areas and explore the surrounding complex.
Next, visit Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in Nepal and an important centre of Tibetan Buddhism. Walk around the large white dome while observing pilgrims, monks and visitors turning prayer wheels and spinning prayer beads. The surrounding streets are filled with monasteries, Tibetan handicraft shops and restaurants.
In the afternoon, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, the historic royal centre of the old Kathmandu Kingdom. The temple complex contains beautifully carved stone, wood and metal sculptures dating back many centuries.
After exploring Changu Narayan, continue to Bhaktapur, one of the best-preserved historic cities in the Kathmandu Valley. Once an important capital of the Kathmandu Valley, Bhaktapur retains much of its traditional Newari character, with brick-paved lanes, elaborately carved wooden windows, courtyards and centuries-old temples.
Explore Bhaktapur Durbar Square, where you will see the Golden Gate, the 55-Window Palace, Vatsala Temple and other historic monuments. Today begins your journey into the dramatic landscapes of Lower Mustang. After breakfast, drive north from Pokhara towards Jomsom, following the Kali Gandaki River through the mountains. The scenery changes noticeably as you leave the greener hills behind and enter the drier Himalayan landscape of Mustang.
The route passes through villages and settlements such as Beni, Tatopani, Ghasa and Tukuche, with the road following the deep Kali Gandaki Valley. Along the way, you will see waterfalls, rocky cliffs, traditional villages and increasingly rugged mountain scenery. The valley lies between some of the world’s highest peaks, including Dhaulagiri and Annapurna.
Soon you will reach Marpha, one of Mustang’s most attractive traditional villages. Known for its whitewashed houses, stone-paved lanes, wooden balconies and apple orchards, Marpha is home to the Thakali people and has long been an important settlement along the historic trade route between Tibet and the lower valleys.
Spend some time walking through Marpha and exploring its narrow lanes before continuing to Jomsom, the administrative centre of Mustang. Jomsom sits beside the Kali Gandaki River at an altitude of around 2,700 metres and offers spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan terrain.

Drive towards Muktinath, one of Nepal’s most important pilgrimage destinations. The road climbs steadily from Jomsom through the high mountain landscape, passing through settlements and barren hills shaped by the dry climate of Mustang.
Located at approximately 3,800 metres, Muktinath is a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Hindus associate the temple with Lord Vishnu, while Buddhists regard the area as an important pilgrimage site connected with Avalokiteshvara. The main temple complex features 108 water spouts, from which pilgrims traditionally bathe, as well as an eternal flame fed by natural gas.
Take time to explore the temple area and the nearby Buddhist shrine while enjoying the remarkable views of the surrounding mountains. The landscape around Muktinath is very different from the greener regions of central Nepal, with wide valleys, rocky slopes and high Himalayan peaks.

Afterwards, explore Davis Falls, a dramatic waterfall where water from Phewa Lake disappears into an underground gorge. Just across the road is Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, a sacred cave containing a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The cave extends beneath the area around the waterfall and provides an interesting glimpse into the natural landscape beneath Pokhara.
Later, visit the International Mountain Museum, which provides an introduction to Nepal’s Himalayan geography, mountain communities and mountaineering history. Exhibits cover the major Himalayan peaks, traditional lifestyles of mountain communities and the history of expeditions in the region.
In the afternoon, enjoy a peaceful boat ride on Phewa Lake. From the water, you can see the surrounding hills and, when the weather is clear, reflections of the Annapurna range on the lake. You may also visit Tal Barahi Temple, located on a small island in the middle of the lake.
