Itinerary

  • Day 01:
    Arrival in Paro

    Welcome to Bhutan. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, meet your local guide and driver and transfer to your hotel.

    After check-in, take some time to rest after your flight. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a gentle introduction to Paro with a short walk around the town. Paro is a pleasant valley surrounded by forested mountains, with traditional Bhutanese houses, monasteries and cultivated fields adding to its distinctive character.

    If time permits, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most revered temples. The peaceful surroundings provide a fitting introduction to the country’s Buddhist traditions.

    Return to the hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

  • Day 02:
    Paro – Haa Valley

    After breakfast, drive from Paro to the beautiful and relatively secluded Haa Valley. The journey takes you over Chele La Pass (3,988 m), one of Bhutan’s highest motorable mountain passes.

    At the pass, weather permitting, enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding Himalayan landscape. The area is covered with alpine vegetation and is particularly attractive when the rhododendrons are in bloom.

    Continue the descent towards Haa Valley. As you approach Haa, the landscape becomes increasingly rural, with traditional Bhutanese homes, cultivated fields, forests and mountain slopes surrounding the valley.

    Upon arrival, check in to your accommodation and enjoy a relaxed afternoon. You may take a gentle walk around the nearby village and countryside or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

  • Day 03:
    Haa Valley Sightseeing

    Today is devoted to exploring the quiet and scenic Haa Valley, where traditional Bhutanese life remains an important part of the landscape.

    Visit Lhakhang Karpo, the White Temple, one of the principal temples in Haa. The temple is set against a beautiful mountain backdrop and is an important centre of Buddhist worship.

    Continue to Lhakhang Nagpo, the Black Temple, another significant religious site in the valley. Together, these two temples offer an insight into the spiritual traditions and history of Haa.

    Later, drive through the surrounding countryside and villages. The peaceful roads provide opportunities to see traditional farmhouses, agricultural fields and local life. Depending on local circumstances, you may also have an opportunity to visit a traditional Bhutanese home and learn about rural life in the valley.

    The remainder of the afternoon is free to enjoy Haa at a relaxed pace. Take a short walk through the village, photograph the surrounding landscape or simply enjoy the tranquility of the valley.

  • Day 04:
    Haa – Thimphu

    After breakfast, drive from Haa to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city. Enjoy the scenic journey through the mountains and valleys, with opportunities to stop along the way for photographs.

    On reaching Thimphu, make a first stop at Buddha Dordenma, the enormous gilded statue overlooking the capital. Located on a hilltop, the statue offers impressive views across Thimphu Valley and the surrounding mountains.

    Continue to your hotel and check in.

    Later, visit the National Memorial Chorten, one of Thimphu’s most recognizable landmarks. Built in memory of Bhutan’s Third King, the chorten is an important place of daily worship. You will often see local residents circumambulating the monument, turning prayer wheels and making offerings.

    Return to the hotel after sightseeing and enjoy the evening at leisure.

  • Day 05:
    Thimphu Sightseeing

    Today, explore some of Thimphu’s most interesting cultural institutions and traditional crafts.

    Begin at the Folk Heritage Museum, which provides an insight into traditional Bhutanese rural life. The museum recreates the atmosphere of a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse and displays household objects, tools and other items associated with everyday life.

    Continue to the National Institute for Zorig Chusum, popularly known as the Painting School. The institute preserves Bhutan’s traditional arts and crafts, including painting, wood carving, embroidery, sculpture and other forms of craftsmanship. If classes are in session, you may see students practising these traditional skills.

    Next, visit the Crafts Bazaar, where local artisans and craftspeople display a variety of Bhutanese handicrafts. It is a good place to browse traditional textiles, handmade products and souvenirs.

    Continue to the Textile Museum, which showcases Bhutan’s rich weaving traditions. The museum provides an opportunity to see the distinctive patterns, techniques and regional styles that form an important part of Bhutanese culture.

    In the late afternoon, visit Tashichho Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most important architectural landmarks. Located beside the Wang Chhu River, this impressive fortress-monastery houses important government offices and religious institutions. The dzong is particularly atmospheric in the evening, when the changing light highlights its whitewashed walls, intricate woodwork and traditional Bhutanese details.

    Return to your hotel after the visit.

  • Day 06:
    Thimphu – Paro

    After breakfast, drive back to Paro. Upon arrival, visit Rinpung Dzong, one of the finest examples of Bhutanese architecture. The dzong stands on a hillside overlooking the Paro Valley and houses a number of beautiful temples and courtyards.

    Continue to Ta Dzong, the former watchtower built to defend Rinpung Dzong. Today, it houses the National Museum of Bhutan, with collections covering Bhutanese art, culture, history and religious traditions.

    After sightseeing, walk back towards Paro through the traditional Bhutanese countryside. The walk provides a more intimate way to experience the valley, passing through local settlements and along the traditional route towards Paro town.

    Once in Paro, check in to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

  • Day 07:
    Paro – Hike to Tiger's Nest

    Today is the highlight of your Bhutan journey as you hike to Taktsang Monastery, popularly known as Tiger’s Nest.

    After breakfast, drive to the trailhead and begin the hike through pine forest. The trail gradually climbs through the mountains, with prayer flags and small shrines adding to the spiritual atmosphere.

    The hike takes approximately 4–5 hours round trip, depending on your pace and the time spent at the monastery. Along the way, stop at the famous viewpoint for the first spectacular view of Tiger’s Nest, dramatically perched on a cliff high above the valley.

    Continue to the monastery, where you can explore its temples and learn about the history and Buddhist traditions associated with this extraordinary site.

    After visiting Tiger’s Nest, descend along the trail and return to Paro. The rest of the afternoon is free for relaxation.

    Paro – Departure
