Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest, is one of Bhutan’s most revered and iconic landmarks, dramatically perched on a cliffside high above the Paro Valley. The monastery is closely associated with Guru Rinpoche, the revered Buddhist master believed to have brought Buddhism to Bhutan. According to tradition, he arrived at this sacred site on the back of a tigress and meditated in a cave where the monastery now stands.

The present monastery complex dates largely from the late 17th century and consists of temples, prayer halls, and traditional Bhutanese architectural features built into the rugged mountainside. Beyond its religious significance, Taktsang offers a remarkable setting surrounded by pine forests, dramatic cliffs, and sweeping views across the Paro Valley. It remains one of the most meaningful cultural and spiritual sites to experience while visiting Bhutan.
