Bumthang Travel Guide

Bumthang is the spiritual heartland of Bhutan, a broad highland district known for some of the country’s oldest temples and monasteries. The region comprises four main valleys: Chumey, Choekhor, Tang and Ura, each with its own landscape and character. Choekhor Valley, often called the spiritual heart of Bumthang, is home to important sites such as Jakar Dzong, Kurjey Lhakhang and Jambay Lhakhang. At around 2,600 metres, Bumthang also has a cooler climate, fertile farmland, apple orchards and traditional villages, making it one of Bhutan’s most rewarding destinations for travellers interested in Buddhist heritage and rural life.
